IS CANNABIS LEGAL IN THE US VIRGIN ISLANDS?
Medical Marijuana is legal in St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John. Recreational cannabis is not yet available in the territory, but legislation is in the works to legalize recreational weed. The USVI did decriminalized cannabis back in in 2014.
GUIDE TO GETTING YOUR MEDICAL MARIJUANA CARD IN THE USVI
Before getting your medical marijuana card in the US Virgin Islands there are some things you should know first.
The Virgin Islands Medical Cannabis Patient Care Act (MCPCA) is the law that permits the use of medical cannabis in the territory. The MCPCA has sets the rules for patients wishing to obtain their medical card.
The Office of Cannabis Regulation (OCR) is the department that will be issuing med cards to patients. As well, the OCR determines what medical conditions are eligible for medical cannabis use.
You must be 18 years or older to obtain your cannabis card in the USVI. For anyone under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must be qualified as a designated caregiver.
USVI MEDICAL MARIJUANA CARDS FOR VISITORS
The USVI Medical Cannabis Law defines visitors as anyone who has been in the USVI for less than 45 days.
Tourist USVI Medical Marijuana Card Requirements
Visitors to the USVI with a medical marijuana card from their home state will be able to apply for a temporary card.
This will be a temporary VI medical cannabis card, which would only be good for a small amount of days. From 5 to 30 days.
Visitors who don’t have a medical marijuana card may need to go through some extra steps before getting a cannabis card.
