Brides and grooms looking to add some extra greenery to their nuptials had the opportunity to check out the latest trends on Saturday at Calgary’s first ever cannabis wedding expo. Since cannabis has been legalized in Canada, wedding vendors say they have been inundated with couples who want to highlight the plant all day long. Canadian Cannabis Wedding Expo’s organizer Laureen Cauryn Cameron said many couples are curious about what cannabis marriage entails. “There are more ways to incorporate it than just to smoke it,” Cauryn Cameron said. “In the flowers, you can do it aesthetically, you can have it as a favor for a wedding.”
By planning stagettes and honeymoons, Natalia Chiles helps couples expand the cannabis theme. “Adding a few drops of non-psychoactive CBD oil into your tea or smoking a cannabis cigar can be anything,” Chiles said. “There are various alternatives to what people might think of as a marriage to cannabis.”
While some couples may all go out with weed-themed weddings, the most attention is focused on the subtle touches. The wedding date of Samantha MacCallum is still more than a year away, and she said cannabis accents are likely to appear. Wedding planners reminded people before booking to double check if cannabis venues are Marijuana friendly.
A Cannabis Wedding Expo was first held in 2016 in Denver by Cannabis Wedding Expo, (Not to be confused with Canadian Cannabis Wedding Expo) ever since then, they have been popping up all over cities such as Los Angeles.
